Denis Cotterell

Denis was instrumental in the formation of the Miami Swimming Club in 1976. He has held the position of Head Coach since its formation, and has guided 17 swimmers into berths on the Australian representative teams. An internationally recognised Master Coach, Denis has also been part of the Australian coaching team, attending Olympic and Commonwealth Games, PanPacific Games, World Championships, and other international events.

Raelene Ryan

Ably assisting Denis in designing and implementing training programs, Raelene (Raels) joined Miami in 1997 as the National Age coach. She has achieved gold qualifications and has travelled with teams as Head Coach for SQ and Fischer and Paykel Queensland Development Squad. She has toured as manager for numerous international teams including the PAN PAC team (Victoria, Canada), World Youth Games and the World Cup (Singapore). Raelene has recently been appointed as a coach to the Commonwealth Youth Games team in September to be held in Pune, India.

Raelene started swimming at eight years of age and at the age of ten, her family moved to Bundaberg where she was trained by Lawrie Lawrence. She competed and was a record holder at state and national levels. At eleven years of age she represented Australia in the first High School Pan Pacific Games in Brisbane.

Ken Nixon

Ken joined the Miami coaching team in 2006. He is formerly from Forster Aquatic in NSW where he spent 5 years as Assistant Coach and 9 years as Head Coach coaching senior swimmers. In 1996, he travelled to England where he coached on a voluntary basis. Ken has a silver license. In 2006, Ken coached at the National Youth Sprint camp, the National Male Distance Camp and the Trans Tasman Team.

His career highlights include coaching a swimmer to three National Age medals in 2006 and in 2007 coaching a swimmer who qualified for the Junior Pan Pac team. He also cites being part of the Miami team at the 2007 National Age Championships in Perth (where our club took 2nd place on the club pointscore) and the Pro-Ma Miami team in Brisbane in 2008 (where the team was placed 1st on the club point score) as highlights to date. Ken coaches the State and National Junior squads.

Alex Beaver

The latest inclusion to the coaching team, Alex joined Pro-Ma Miami SC in 2008. He is an Austswim Certified Instructor and has a Bronze license and his working towards his silver license.

Alex was born in Santa Cruz, California and is the third generation of his family to coach swimming, following his father and grandfather who were both International level coaches.

Alex has managed eight swim schools in Western Australia whilst coaching part-time.In 2007, he manages the Runaway Bay Sports Super Centre Aquatics Department and Swim School 9Austswim) which was awarded Swim School of the year in Queensland.

Alex competed in swimming from age of five to twenty three and his favourite events were the 200 and 400 Ima, 200 Fly and the 200 breakstroke. Alex coaches the novice squad.
